Press release

Destruction is loud. And quiet. It can be visible—in ruins, fractures, dividing lines—or act unnoticed, creeping, systemic, beneath the surface. The exhibition DEMO at Kunstverein Marburg presents works by thirteen young artists from the Offenbach University of Art and Design, from the departments of Sculpture (Prof. Mike Bouchet) and Experimental Spatial Concepts (Prof. Heiner Blum), who each approach this theme in very different ways. DEMO stands for both demolition and demonstration. Both describe acts of confrontation, of making visible, and of upheaval.

The works in the exhibition engage with this ambivalence and fragility: here, destruction does not appear only as an endpoint, but also as a method, a gesture of insight or liberation. At times political, at times poetic, at times ironic, at times painfully personal. Whether through technical disruptions, social tensions, or bodily processes, many works revolve around orders that falter, dissolve, or reassemble. They negotiate forms of transition, respond to a present marked by complexity and restlessness, and in doing so, open spaces for reflection, friction, and possible reorientation. DEMO is not a swan song—but an exploration. An exhibition about ruptures—and what might emerge from them.
